About

Sport has shaped both my personal life and my professional career. As a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine, I combine clinical expertise with first-hand experience as an international athlete to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to injury management, rehabilitation, and performance optimisation. I graduated in Medicine from the University of Malta before commencing my medical career at St. Luke's Hospital. My longstanding passion for sport led me to pursue postgraduate training in Sports and Exercise Medicine, culminating in four years of specialist training in Leeds, United Kingdom. During this time, I developed expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries across athletes of all levels. Committed to advancing my understanding of human movement, I subsequently completed a second Master's degree in Sports Biomechanics. My dissertation focused on running technique and video gait analysis, an area in which I have developed particular expertise, alongside swimming technique analysis. This additional training enables me to integrate detailed biomechanical assessment into clinical practice, allowing me to identify the underlying movement patterns that contribute to injury, pain, and reduced performance. My clinical philosophy is centred on treating the individual rather than simply the injury. I adopt a holistic approach that combines Sports and Exercise Medicine with biomechanics and principles of neuromuscular control to identify the root cause of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. By addressing movement dysfunction and optimising movement efficiency, I aim to achieve durable, long-term outcomes that enable patients not only to recover from injury but also to perform at their highest potential while minimising the risk of recurrence. Alongside my medical career, I have competed in triathlon for more than three decades at both elite and age-group international level. I have proudly represented Malta at two Commonwealth Games, European Games, and Mediterranean Games, and have won multiple European and World Championship age-group titles. In recognition of my sporting achievements, I was awarded the Malta Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2010 and the SportMalta Award in 2011. My experience as both a physician and an athlete provides a unique perspective on the physical and psychological demands of sport. Whether working with elite competitors, recreational athletes, or individuals striving to maintain an active lifestyle, my goal is to deliver personalised care that restores confidence, improves movement quality, enhances performance, and enables long-term participation in sport.
